KADEL'S
VELVET HAMMER
Ecologically
certified in
1999, Norm
and Perry's
Velvet Hammer
became part
of the Kadel's
family of collision
repair facilities
in June of
2000. The former
owners, Norman
Hartwell and
Perry Walsh,
had a philosophy
that "If
we don't clean
up our act,
then we won't
have a place
to call home." Perry
and Norm
decided that
an environmental
aspect of
their business
was the way
to go. Norm's
wife, Frances
Hartwell,
has been an
industry
representative
involved
with P2O in
developing
the Eco-Logical
Business
Program. |

Kadel's Auto Body is no stranger to environmental concerns. A recipient of the Governor's Award in 1992 for reduction of toxic wastes, Kadel's has a long-standing concern for environmental quality.
Don Braden, President and CEO of Kadel's Auto Body is committed to continuing and expanding the tradition established under the Eco-Logical Business Program. Don feels that training is a key to meeting the needs of quality collision repair while protecting our environment. With plans to add improved recycling equipment as well as state of the art equipment to process wash water, Braden recognizes that although there are challenges ahead, addressing these concerns will not only be good for our communities but will produce very real savings in the day to day operation of our businesses.
When asked, Stephen Olson, now the Safety and Hazardous Waste Manager for Kadel's Auto Body, advises other automotive shops, "Don't be put off by the process for certification, there is staff to help." He hopes that in the future consumers will want to take their business to an Eco-Logical shop. |
