THE PROGRAM

The Automotive Services Program is one part of the Eco-Logical Business Program and recognizes vehicle service and repair businesses and shops that reach the highest standards in minimizing their environmental impact. The goal of the program is to prevent and minimize pollution generated by small businesses in the statewide area. This is the first multi-media (air, water, solid waste) automotive services certification program in the nation.

BECOME AN ECOBIZ AUTOMOTIVE PROFESSIONAL

If your auto shop meets local environmental requirements and takes extra, voluntary steps to help protect the environment, we'll certify it as an Eco-Logical Business. The North American Auto Trades Association (NATA) and the Pollution Prevention Outreach Team, a group of pollution prevention experts from eight Portland-area agencies, sponsor this program. For technical information, shops are encouraged to use "Keep Your Shop In Tune". (click to download) a handbook that outlines the Best Management Practices to control and prevent pollution for automotive shops and related industries. The guidebook has many steps and tips your shop can take to reduce water and air pollution, and hazardous and solid waste. In addition to these program best management practices, several Oregon automotive shop owners worked with DEQ and a consultant to develop strategies for creating a sustainable automotive repair shop. The information generated by this project is found in "A Sustainability Vision For The Automotive Services Industry". The purpose of this document is to help shops move even further beyond the Eco-Logical Business program criteria.

When you request an application you will receive a guidebook, "Keep Your Shop In Tune". Also included is a self-test Check List & Application For Certification (PDF). This is the same list we use for certification visits.

Program eligibility criteria. Fill out this check list, send a copy to EcoBiz, and we will schedule a visit to your shop to go over the list, provide feedback and advice, and identify any items that need to be improved for certification. Once you have become a certified Eco-Logical Business, we'll help make sure your customers and the community know about it.
